Candidates for Lip Lift Surgery
Candidates for the upper lip lift procedure include individuals who desire to reduce the upper lip length and/or increase the visibility of the red part of the upper lip. Typically, ideal candidates have at least a 1.5cm distance between the base of the nose and upper edge of the red part of the upper lip. However, the goal is to ensure a lip length that is harmonious with the face and thus there is no single measurement for all patients. Dr. Foulad will perform a thorough evaluation to help you decide which surgery or alternative treatment would best meet your goals.
How Lip Lift is Performed
Dr. Foulad usually performs the lip lift procedure using local anesthesia with the patient awake, but IV sedation can also be used if the patient prefers. A bullhorn design is most commonly used, which hides the incision at the base of the nose. The lip is elevated within a deep plane and care is taken to reduce tension at the incision.
How to Prepare for Lip Lift Surgery
In preparation for undergoing lip lift surgery, we need to ensure that you are healthy and optimized for the procedure. Certain medications and supplements (such as those that increase the risk of bleeding) might have to be stopped a specific time period prior to the procedure. You will be provided more comprehensive pre-operative instructions specific to your individual case.

What to Expect After Lip Lift Surgery
You will be recommended to keep the incision moist with an ointment for approximately 1 week. The sutures will usually be removed around 4 to 7 days after your procedure.
Typically, bruising and obvious swelling resolves within 1-3 weeks after the procedure. However, it will take at least several months for the majority of healing to occur and swelling to resolve.
