What is the MIDS Neck Lift™
The neck has several layers: the outer layer (skin and surface fat), the platysma muscle (a thin muscle covering most of the front of the neck), and deeper structures (like deeper fat, digastric muscles, and submandibular glands). The platysma muscle can sag and the deeper structures can add fullness to the neck, varying from person to person.
The MIDS Neck Lift treats all these layers through a small incision under the chin, which heals well and is usually not noticeable. It reduces surface fat with liposuction or surgical scissors, tightens the platysma muscle, and sculpts the deeper structures. If needed, this can include reducing deeper fat, reshaping the digastric muscles, and trimming the submandibular glands. Additional maneuvers can also be performed, such as horizontal fasciotomy and transverse platysmal myototomy, to further improve the sharpness of the cervicomental angle.
The Plus version of this procedure (MIDS Plus Neck Lift) adds an extra incision in the crease behind the ear, which is very well-hidden. This allows for extra contouring at the posterior region of the jawline near the earlobe.
When deciding between liposuction or the MIDS Neck Lift, one has to consider the overall goal and cause of neck fullness. If fullness is mostly from surface fat, liposuction alone may provide excellent results. However, individuals whose submental fullness is mainly due to deeper fat or deeper structures, or those individuals who desire the greatest improvement, would benefit from the MIDS Neck Lift.
What Are the Benefits of the MIDS Neck Lift with Dr. Foulad?
Platysmaplasty and Deep Sculpting: The MIDS Neck Lift goes beyond the reduction of fat; it delivers comprehensive results with treatment of multiple tissue layers and tightening of the platysma muscle.
